Welcome

Conflict is not inherently bad, but it's the way in which conflict is managed that determines its outcome. Conflict can play a big part in all of our lives. It can happen at work, in school, at home and in our neighbourhoods. Conflict can often lead to uncertainty, arguments, aggression and even violence.

Mediation gives people a chance to talk to someone neutral, someone who wants to help them resolve their dispute, who does not judge who is right or wrong and who helps people find their own solutions.

The process gives everyone involved in the dispute the opportunity to address their past concerns whilst being future focused, and helps to identify common needs and issues. Over 80% of the people who have used mediation have found a realistic solution, one that works for them.

"Beating the Bullies"

This documentary is a part of BBC One's 'ONE Life' series. The programme followed the problems of anti-social behaviour in school, the involvement of CRISP, the selection and training of peer mediators, and how they practise these skills in school.

ONE Life enters the lives of a group of 8 year olds struggling with friendship, isolation and bullying. It tells the moving and uplifting story of the children of Heatherbrook Primary School as they try to keep peace in the playground.

The emerging drama has been 8 months in the filming and is told from the viewpoint of the children by the children themselves. It will make you laugh and cry, but ultimately leave you with feeling that these plucky 8 year olds could be the mediators of tomorrow.

Filmed in partnership with Truvision, Leicestershire Mediation Service – CRISP and Heatherbrook School .

As a result of completion of the Peer Mediation programme, Heatherbrook were awarded the Diana Princess Award
